I put a WLAN repeater about 1m away from the main router and connected it to the laptop via a LAN cable. So I now have an Internet connection via LAN cable via the WLAN repeater.
The internet connection seems to me to be faster than when I connect directly to the main router via Wi-Fi. Can this be?
How about simply connecting the PC directly to LAN, then it would be really fast, namely as fast as your line allows. ^^
Yes, it can be because the cable does not first have to be bridged over the air, laboriously via radio. To speed things up, you can simply hang a Cat-5 cable between the router and the device
Oh kay. ^^
Apparently I was wrong. Direct Wi-Fi to the main router is faster according to speedtest-cli:
with LAN cable to WLAN repeater:
Testing download speed…
Download: 32.81 Mbit / s
Testing upload speed…
Upload: 28.25 Mbit / s
with Wi-Fi directly to the main router:
Testing download speed…
Download: 89.94 Mbit / s
Testing upload speed…
Upload: 28.20 Mbit / s
Interesting that the upload speed is almost identical. Hmm

It's not that strange… If your WLAN repeater construction would be limited to 33Mbit / s, but your connection only provides 28 Mbit / s, then you only have 28 Mbit / s in both cases… On the other hand, when downloading it is noticeable because the construction then limited.
