But it can happen with a laptop that is built in such a way that a processor change is not intended. Thus it is hardly or not at all possible to use another process.
With older generations of Intel and AMD, you can buy second-hand or, more rarely, new processors with PGA sockets. For some years now, both Intel and AMD have been increasingly offering mobile processors almost exclusively with BGA solder sockets. These variants can't be detached from the mainboard or soldered on without expensive special equipment, and therefore something like this can hardly be found in private resale or in end-consumer trade.
